GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This painting by Johann Heinrich Fuseli is a quintessential example of the themes that preoccupied many artists during the last decades of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century, with the dawning of romanticism.

1963.102.FA Auguste Rodin, Danaid

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The sinuous body of the Danaid curves over the rock onto which she has thrown herself  in despair. Water flows from the jar resting beside her. The Danaid is one of fifty daughters of King Danaus of Argos condemned for eternity to fill leaky vessels with water in punishment for killing their husbands.
