GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Though stretched out in the traditional pose of the reclining female nude, or odalisque, the woman's raised eyebrows, wide eyes, and open mouth register surprise. Though narrative was commonly included in Swedish art, it does not play a role in explaining this nude's unusual, fleeting expression. Anders Zorn wished to create perfect beauty in his art. Because the ideal was not always found in nature, he would use several models to achieve it.
