In this scene, waitresses from the inn at right are physically dragging customers from the road. Women were readily available at each station to serve, entertain, or otherwise accommodate the needs of weary travelers.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The town of Chiryū was known for its annual horse fair. Today, Chiryū is a satellite city of Nagoya.
1984.202.41 Narumi: Famous Arimatsu Tie-Dye
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The two shops advertise tie-dyed fabrics, a special product of the towns of Narumi and nearby Arimatsu.
1984.202.43 Kuwana: Shinchiri Crossing
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Kuwana was a prosperous port and an important castle town. Kuwana Castle, home of an important daimyō (feudal lord) family, marked the entrance to the port.
1984.202.44 Yokkaichi: Mie River
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The wind, which bends reeds and willow and whisks the hat of a traveler just out of reach becomes the subject of this scene of the Mie River describing the atmospheric conditions.
1984.202.47 Kameyama: Clear Weather After Snow
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Although Andō Hiroshige made his sketches of the Tōkaidō during the summer months, he included two snow scenes. However, neither resembles very closely the named town.
