Memento mori

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Memento mori is a Latin phrase meaning "remember that you must die." This term refers to objects or symbols that remind the viewer of the transitory nature of life; that material goods and worldly pleasures are unfulfilling, particularly in comparison to the spiritual rewards of immortality in the afterlife.

Saint Sebastian (Christianity)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Saint Sebastian served as a soldier in the Roman army, but when he was discovered to be a Christian, the Roman emperor ordered him shot by his own archers. He miraculously survived the arrows, however, which led to the arrow becoming his identifying attribute. Eventually he was martyred by being stoned to death.
