Anri Sala, _Intervista_

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In 1997, Anri Sala discovered a black-and-white 16mm newsreel in a box of his belongings at his parents' home in Tirana, Albania. Sala's parents had thought the newsreel, wrapped in black plastic, belonged to him. However, the newsreel, which no longer had its soundtrack, was made in the late 1970s by the state television.

Mimbres (Mogollon)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Mogollon culture, which flourished from about 300 BCE to about 1350 CE, encompassed at least six subgroups, of which the Mimbres people of southwestern New Mexico are probably the best known.

Gutai

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In the aftermath of World War II, many young artists in Japan—as in Europe and the United States—challenged themselves to rethink their inherited artistic and pictorial traditions. Recognizing this growing cultural foment, in 1954 Jirō Yoshihara (1905-1972) rallied a number of such artists together in the city of Ashiya, a suburb of Osaka, to start the avant-garde group known as the Gutai Art Association.

Koki Tanaka (b. 1975)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Koki Tanaka was born in Tochigi, Japan in 1975, and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He graduated with an MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan in 2005 and has participated in residency programs at Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2005-2006) and Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern Switzerland (2007). His work takes shape primarily as video and installation that explores the relationship between objects and actions.

Atsuko Tanaka (1932-2005)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Born in Osaka, Atsuko Tanaka attended both the Art Institute of Osaka Municipal Museum of Art and Kyoto Municipal College of Art, where she studied Western painting and worked in a primarily figurative manner.

Anri Sala (b. 1974)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Anri Sala creates richly layered videos, films, and photographs that explore memory, history, and identity within the continuous interplay of the personal and the public. Sala studied at the Academie Nationale des Arts, Tirania, Albania, the Ecole National Superieure des Arts Decoratifs, Paris, and the Le Fresnoy-Studio National des Arts Contemporains, Tourcoing, France. Born in Albania in 1974, he currently lives and works in Paris. 

Bruce Nauman (b. 1941)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Bruce Nauman has consistently produced art that eliminates borders between art and life. In his process and conceptually-based art, he employs traditional materials such as plaster and wax, and nontraditional materials such as fiberglass and latex, neon, holography, and video.

Tatsuo Miyajima (b. 1957)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Tatsuo Miyajima was born in Tokyo in 1957 and received two degrees from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1984 and 1986. His sculpture deals with the metaphysics of light, numbers, electricity, and space.
