1984.49.10.FA Berenice Abbott, Manhattan Bridge

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
On moving to New York in the 1930s, Bernenice Abbott began capturing images of the modern cityscape. Her Manhattan Bridge is a powerful vision of the world ordered by machinery. The firm, aspiring iron lines of the bridge form a complete and handsome environment, towering over the figures of walking men. The composition of the photographs faithfully embodies an experience both gritty and sublime.
