The primary motif of this censer is the landscape around the famous Itsukushima Shrine, located on the Japan Sea in western Japan. The cover is worked in a variety of flowers in various metals and alloys.

The scene on this charger is of a grand procession of warriors accompanying a wheeled cart. Judging from the decorated parasols and baggage carriers, the procession may be proceeding to a wedding.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This small chest features two open-paneled doors enclosing seven small, gilt-lined drawers with silver chrysanthemum pulls. The surface is worked in two tones of gold and silver inlay. The decoration includes four zodiac animals on the top and flower-and-bird motifs on the side panels.

This chest features decorative motifs in a high relief (takozan) technique using different colored metals. The borders are inlaid with gold in a swastika-like diaper pattern.
