The Jewel Stern American Silver Collection
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In the summer of 2002, the Dallas Museum of Art acquired the most important private collection of 20th century American silver in existence: The Jewel Stern American Silver Collection. Assembled over a twenty-year period by one of the foremost scholars in the field, the Stern Collection consists of over three hundred pieces of industrially produced American silver. Dating from 1925 to 2000, the collection is unique in covering the entire period from the birth of American industrial design to the present.
Silver at the Dallas Museum of Art
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Dallas Museum of Art began a major effort to collect, exhibit, and interpret silver in 1987 with the gift of the Hoblitzelle Collection of English and Irish silver. In 1989, the Museum purchased several pieces from the Sam Wagstaff Collection including an example of Gorham Manufacturing Company's extraordinary iceberg bowl, marking the first efforts to build a world-renowned collection of late 19th-century American silver.

Bequeathed to the Dallas Museum of Art in December 2000, The Patsy Lacy Griffith Collection is an impressive collection of modernist works of fine and decorative art from the estate of its namesake. The approximately five hundred objects range from paintings, sculpture, and works on paper to glass, ceramics, silver, and furniture.
Old Master Prints, Bequest of Calvin J. Holmes
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
As a collector Calvin Holmes' interests ranged widely, but, if quality and quantity are indications, his greatest affection was for the graphic arts. Within the field of printmaking he collected older examples, both European and Japanese, and the work of contemproary artists as well. With characteristic generosity Holmes made bequests of these prints in ways he thought would enable them best to reach the widest audience.
C. Vincent Prothro / Robert Smithson
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
C. Vincent Prothro was a businessman and Robert Smithson was an artist. Vin Prothro actively divided his time between business pursuits and numerous civic organizations, including Southwestern Medical Foundation, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Governor's Committee on Property Tax Relief. Robert Smithson collected rocks and redefined the meaning of art outside of the gallery.
