Wendy Reves (1916-2007)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Wyn-Nelle Russell, known as Wendy, was born into a modest family in Marshall, Texas, in 1916. When she was only six years old, her parents divorced. Subsequently, an uncle and aunt took in Wendy and her mother. Soon afterwards, she and her mother moved to Haynesville, Louisiana, and then to San Antonio. Their life was chaotic and difficult.
Emery Reves (1904-1981)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Born Emery Revesz on September 16, 1904 at Bácsföldvár (then in Hungary and now Baĉko Gradište in Serbian province of Vojvodina), Emery exemplified the extraordinary lives of certain individuals born in the Jewish communities of central Europe. Raised by parents who were middle-class property owners, Reves demonstrated a mature appreciation for education and a strong work ethic.
The Reves Gift to the DMA
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In 1985 Wendy Reves organized the gift of her late husband's collection to the Dallas Museum of Art to honor his memory. Featuring over 1,400 European artworks and decorative objects, including works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Camille Pissarro, the Reves Collection is one of the highlights of the Dallas Museum of Art.
The Wendy and Emery Reves Furniture Collection
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Wendy and Emery Reves acquired several exceptional examples of European furniture, although they did not focus their collecting in this area. Most of the furniture used by the couple was already in situ at Villa La Pausa when they purchased the estate in 1953.
