Sikyatki Polychrome bowls are named for the ancient Hopi site of Sikyatki, which means “yellow house.” The vessels were produced in the Hopi region of northern Arizona from the late 14th to early 17th century.

According to Hopi songs, when people entered the current world, it was already filled with animals, plants, and insects—including butterflies. Butterflies proliferate in seasons of rain.
