The Khmer kings of the 9th to 13th centuries constructed extensive temple complexes dedicated to the Buddha or to the Hindu gods, most often to Shiva.

2010.6 Nandi


GENERAL DESCRIPTION  
Nandi, or Nandin, means "the joyous one." This young bull is the mount of the god Shiva. Like the god, the bull is shown as still youthful, with immature horns. Also like Shiva, he looks radiant and loveable. To Hindus, Nandi is part of Shiva's family, like the children of Shiva and his wife, Parvati.
