Nagasawa Rosetsu (1754-1799)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Nagasawa Rosetsu (1754-1799) was born in Tamba province (modern Hyogo Prefecture in the southern part of the main island of Japan) to a low ranking samurai, or warrior, family. In his twenties he moved to Kyoto where he worked under Maruyama Okyo, founder of the Maruyama school of painting.
Dorothy Austin (1911-2011)

Born in Dallas, Texas, Dorothy Austin graduated from The Hockaday School in 1928 and left to study at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and at the Art Students League of New York under Arthur Lee and William Zorach.
Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Born in Paris, France, Maurice de Vlaminck was a mechanic, journalist, musician, and professional bicyclist before embarking on a successful career as a painter. He began to teach himself painting as a teenager and befriended fellow artist André Derain in 1900 when they were both in the military. In 1901, the pair attended a Vincent Van Gogh exhibition in Paris.
Max Liebermann (1847-1935)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Born in Berlin in 1847, Liebermann was the son of a successful businessman whose wealth was such that the future painter never had to work for a living. Yet, like his exact contemproary, the equally wealthy impressionist painter Gustave Caillebotte, Liebermann did not let his comfortable income prevent him from working hard throughout his life. In fact he made a good deal of money in his own right as a successful artist.
Ilya Bolotowsky (1907-1981)
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Ilya Bolotowsky was born in Petrograd (now Saint Petersburg) Russia in 1907. His family emigrated to Turkey in 1920 where they lived until 1923 when they left to settle in New York.
