Experience the DMA’s Slip Zone exhibition presented as an original commissioned suite of dance through the dazzling vision of Joy Bollinger, Artistic Director of Bruce Wood Dance. Traveling through the dripping lines and pulsing hues, the Slip Zone Suite explores the journey of the Abstract Expressionists through the lens of dynamic movement relationships. In a series of solos, duets, and ensembles, the dances capture the vivid swirls of color, the bursts of shape, and the serenity of monochrome.
Joy Bollinger has been affiliated with Bruce Wood Dance in varying capacities for more than 16 years and has performed in more than 50 of its works before taking the helm as Artistic Director. A distinguished choreographer, her works have been named to Top Ten lists for the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Her work Carved in Stone was called “deeply emotional” by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and it “stunned audiences and critics with its lyricism” according to the Dallas Morning News.
Bruce Wood Dance, founded by the late Bruce Wood, has been a part of the DFW dance scene in various iterations for over two decades, with the aim of shifting the consciousness of audiences through dance.
“You want to treat each scene of [this] one-hour show as you would a canvas or installation in a gallery, to look at it again from a different angle, to hold it up for scrutiny, to let your mind wonder." —D Magazine review, 2013
