In a new musical play by Robert Emery written for the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, Judy Garland's life is brought into focus through historical vignettes and performances by actress Janelle Lutz and pianist Adam Wright. For decades, Judy Garland has stood as an icon for the LGBTQ+ community. Her character in The Wizard of Oz inspired the term "friends of Dorothy" and maybe even the rainbow flag. Her 1969 funeral played a role in the Stonewall uprising that ushered in the Gay Liberation Movement. This short play will look at Garland's life, her legacy in the Gay Rights Movement, and artists who have followed her as icons of Queer culture like Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, Cher, Pink, and Lady Gaga.
