DMA NOW AN OPEN ACCESS INSTITUTION

Dallas, TX—November 27, 2019—In keeping with its mission to expand the meaning and possibilities of learning and creativity, the Dallas Museum of Art is pleased to announce that it is now an Open Access institution. Open Access allows all works believed to be in the public domain* to be freely available for downloading, sharing, repurposing, and remixing without restriction. Those that are not, including loans to the DMA or any objects in the Keir Collection of Islamic Art, will not download.

Anyone with an internet connection will now have access to over 10,000 objects from our expansive global collection that spans 5,000 years of history, representing a full range of world cultures. These high-quality images are free of any copyright holders, trademarks, patents, or other third-party rights.

One of the core values at the DMA is that art is for everyone, and this program marks a milestone for public access to art and the humanities. The DMA’s Open Access program builds on a history of innovative projects such as the Museum's online collection, which allows patrons to explore, interact with, and understand the art better than ever before. It is the Museum’s hope that these new features will inspire artists and allow patrons to leverage the DMA’s expansive collection and its wealth of data.
