GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This dish has been attributed to a small group excavated at Luoyang in Henan province, China, and is dated to the 7th century C.E. The shape is said to reflect the art of ancient Persia, and the three supporting feet are similar to the silver wares of the Sassanian empire (224-651 C.E.). The shape and form bear a relationship to foliate designs and decorative style. The blue glaze of the dish indicates the use of cobalt, first imported into China from the Near East during the Tang dynasty (618-906 C.E.).
