1984.202.9 Ōiso: The Rain of Tora



GENERAL DESCRIPTION    
In the Edo period (1603-1868), Ōiso was the setting for a kabuki play, Ōiso Tora Ossana Monogatari (The Youth of Tora of Ōiso),  about a courtesan named Tora and her motherly love for her child. The print's subtitle alludes to Tora's weeping in the drama.

東海道五十三次之内 (Tokaido Gojyusan Tsugi no Uchi), the title of series appears at top center left of print.

大磯 (Ōiso) appears next to the title in black, next to which in red is  虎ヶ雨 (the rain of Tora).
