1985.R.322.a-b, Covered Dish, Probable Bohemia, c. 1750-1800

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Dishes that retain their original covers are rare. This particularly fine example features faceted cutwork, a scalloped rim, and stars. In both shape and decoration it is in keeping with glass made in Bohemia. Because Bohemian glass was exported all over the world, it is often difficult to say with certainty that pieces found in other glass-producing areas were in reality not imported from Bohemia. For example, this covered dish relates in some ways to glass made at the royal factory of La Granja at San Ildefonso, Spain. Nevertheless, large amounts of Bohemian glass were exported to Spain, and this appears to be such a piece.
