2005.21.5 Vivian

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Vivian is a filmic portrait, set to Conway Twitty's "Mona Lisa." The subject is Vivian Kurz, a friend of Conner's when he lived with Timothy Leary (1920-1996), a psychologist and advocate for the therapeutic use of psychedelic drugs, in Massachusetts. Even though he had agreed not to see Vivian (his wife found the relationship problematic), he shot footage of Vivian in her room. The creative editing in this film is typical of Conner's early films, characterized by visual density, rapid editing, and juxtaposition. The non-narrative visual images are given stability and meaning through their interaction with the soundtrack.
