2005.96.1 The Cadillac Ranch Show

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In 1973, the artist collective Ant Farm was invited to create a work on the Texas panhandle ranch of Stanley Marsh.  Standing off Route 66 in Amarillo, the work comprises ten Cadillacs, made between 1949 and 1964, half-buried nose-down to show the evolution of the tailfin. The video documents the digging of the holes and semiburial of the cars with cuts of Cadillac commercials.  As a Texas-born and raised group, Ant Farm can trace its roots to the mythologies that inform Texas's history, landscape, and people.
