1984.49.40.FA Berenice Abbott, Theoline

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The following is the caption by Elizabeth McCausland accompanying the original 1939 edition of Berenice Abbott's Changing New York publication.

"Fore, main, mizzen and spanker masts; flying, inner and under jib staysails and four lower and four topsails—the "Theoline" flaunts its rigging against the towers of lower Manhattan. Built at Rockland, Maine, in 1917, the schooner originally made Boston its home port, New York since 1937. It makes trips from New York every three or four months, carrying whatever cargo it can get."
