GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Tree-trunk bench was one of several designs that Jurgen Bey designed for Droog in the 1990s. It consists of three bronze casts of classical chair backs wedged into a fallen or logged tree trunk, described by Droog as “a crossing between nature and culture.” As a result of its tongue-in-cheek use of natural, nontraditional materials and reference to and reinterpretation of traditional furniture, it epitomizes the Droog philosophy and as a result it is one of the design collective's most important designs. Jurgen Bey’s 1999 Tree-trunk bench captures Droog's new attitude whereby new objectivity and humor coexist.
