GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This bridge over the Yahagi River was the longest on the Tōkaidō, measuring 1,248 feet. Extended across its length here is a daimyō (feudal lord) procession. The size of the feudal lords' land holdings determined the number of attendants in his entourage, but generally, it ranged from one hundred to several thousand. Their ranks were carefully delineated and their order in a procession arranged according to function.
