2006.1.A-VV, Olafur Eliasson, Jokla Series, 2004, 48 framed photographs

This series of forty-eight photographs documents, from an aerial view, the entire trajectory of Iceland's Jokla river system from its source to its outfall. Operating from far above the river, Eliasson captures, in misleadingly finite and comprehensible images, a colossal, natural landscape that is impossible to take in in its entirety from the ground. The perspective undermines the magnitude of the river, allowing the viewer to experience all of it at once, compressing time and scale into an abstracted grid of black and white lines.
