GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Texas artist Jerry Bywaters (1906-1989) was director of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts (now Dallas Museum of Art) from 1943-1964. Though many of his works depict regional scenes, he also painted several self portraits. This portrait of Jerry Bywaters reflects a very different style from his 1935 self portrait (1990.5) which is also in the Dallas Museum of Art's permanent collection.
