1956.147 Franz von Stuck, Sensuality (Die Sinnlichkeit)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In this print, Franz von Stuck provides the viewer with the meaning of his composition in the title: Sensuality. The voluptuous naked woman, with a thick snake curling around her body, glances coquettishly from under heavily lidded eyes. The femme fatale, an attractive female who leads men into dangerous or disastrous situations, was a favorite theme for Symbolists, especially von Stuck. This print is a rendition of his painted masterpiece Sin, also of a nude and serpent, which hung above the mantle in his villa.
