GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This pair of Etruscan a grappolo earrings represents a late version of the same earring type as another pair in the Dallas Museum of Art's collection (1966.25.a-b), featuring a frontal representation of a human head or mask, again in the apex of the horseshoe. Here the head is surrounded by plain globules and applied flowers. The frame of this zone is formed of plain and embossed registers divided by twisted wire. Flanking the central leech form are lengths of coiled gold rope made of twisted wire, terminating at both ends in globules, and applied repoussé female heads with parted, wavy hair. The pendant section below these heads contains five large bosses and applied flowers made of twisted wire and gold beads. Attached to the back of each earring are a heavy hook and a trapezoid catch. Both pieces are damaged in places; several applied details are missing from piece "B."
