GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Teotihuacan (Teotihuacán) ceramic fashions influenced potters throughout Mesoamerica. A cylindrical shape with three slablike feet was the most characteristic ceremonial form. Vessels of the type, which often had a fitted lid, were decorated either by applying a layer of stucco, which was then painted, or by incising the leather-hard clay and rubbing cinnabar into the incised areas (plano relief), as here. The decorated vessels, which were luxury items, have been found in burials at Teotihuacan and in distant parts of Mesoamerica as trade pieces.
