2011.29.2, Jirō Takamatsu, Cube 6 + 3

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
More than a mental trick, Cube 6 + 3 is a manipulation of presence and absence. Toying with geometry and perspective, red lines make the cube seem simultaneously opaque and transparent. Jirō Takamatsu makes apparent what doesn't exist: the "inside" of the cube. The title refers to the six faces of the cube and three lines that make this optical illusion possible. In a playful way, Takamatsu is asking viewers to disregard what they believe to be true of the solid block, and engage with what they see.
