GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Barry Le Va has redefined sculpture through his experimentation with the medium and its composition. Drawing equally on the Minimalist art of Donald Judd, Carl Andre, and So LeWitt, and on the Conceptual practice of Marcel Duchamp, Le Va's works are driven by process and exploit the tension between chaos and order. Chance is a key to the work; its randomness, however, is largely an illusion. Though some components are improvised, their overall layout is mapped out beforehand. The artist has stated that he wishes his work to transcend this first appearance of disorder to achieve order of a higher level.
