1961.14 Isabel Bishop, Girls Sitting in Union Square Fountain

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This relaxed moment between friends is characteristic of the urban images of Isabel Bishop, whose paintings and graphic works explore her fascination with the life of the city in all its forms—particularly the experience of women. Throughout her long career, Bishop explored the world around New York’s Union Square in a series of closely linked paintings and prints. A meticulous technician, she worked slowly, producing only a handful of works each year.
