GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Nathan Hylden’s works on aluminum are created through an arbitrary combination of spray painting, brush painting, and screen-printing. Photos of the artist’s own studio are silkscreened and printed onto an aluminum panel, layered somewhere between gestural brush strokes and a haze of spray paint. Hylden’s multiprocess and multilayered approach makes it challenging for viewers to decipher exactly what it is they are looking at. At the same time, his alternation of manual and mechanical techniques gives his paintings a subtle precision and a clean coherency.
