2011.36.2, Fergus Fehilly, Untitled

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The austere materials that artist Fergus Feehily uses in his small-scale paintings soften their sense of complexity. Feehily regularly incorporates an amalgam of manufactured materials, often layered with or framed by found objects. Their modest size encourages intimate attention from the viewer, so that the works are viewed closely or not at all. In the tattered edges of French Rest [2011.36.1], also in the collection of the Dallas Museum of Art, and the wavering, misconnected lines of Untitled, the artist makes his process visible in a way that quietly but openly celebrates color and texture.
