1995.21.A-II Chihuly, Hart Window

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Dale Chihuly is widely renowned for revitalizing glass as an art form and for bringing vibrant colors into public spaces with his dynamic, large-scale installations. Scholars view his exuberant installations and fine attention to craft as continuing a lineage that includes Louis Comfort Tiffany's turn-of-the-century stained glass windows [2008.21.1.McD, 2008.21.2.McD], for example, as well as the decadent ornamentation of the Baroque period.

The site-specific installation commissioned for the Hamon Atrium, Hart Window, reflects the enthusiastic public response to the Dallas Museum of Art's 1994 exhibition Dale Chihuly: Installations 1964-1994. At the time of their installation in 1995, the flower-like forms Chihuly used for Hart Window were the largest glass pieces ever blown.
