2007.56, Cosima von Bonin, RORSCHACHTEST #4, 2006, cotton and linen

Cosima von Bonin rarely acts alone, enlisting various participants in her social circle and beyond to complete aspects of her work. The final product is a kind of collaboration, and the artist is the overseer. The textile that forms the background of this work is a kikoy imported from the artist's native Kenya, the image at its center is based on a drawing down by the two-year-old daughter of a studio assistant. The inspiration for the scale and the subject matter of this work is Andy Warhol's Rorschach paintings series, made in 1984.
