Acclaimed poet Honorée Fanonne Jeffers makes her fiction debut with The Love Songs of  W. E. B. Du Boissweeping novel that chronicles the journey of an American family from the colonial slave trade and the removal of Indigenous peoples, through the Civil War, to the challenges and triumphs of present day.Told primarily through the lens of Ailey Pearl Garfield, this multigenerational epic follows her efforts to establish an identity for herself, while reckoning with the secrets and legacy of her family.

The Love Songs of W. E. B. Du Bois is an Oprah’s Book Club selection, has garnered starred reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, and Booklist, and has appeared on numerous “best books” lists, including EssencePeopleTime, the Washington Post, CNN, Good Morning America, and USA Today.

Honorée Fanonne Jeffers is the author of five critically acclaimed books of poetry. Her most recent, The Age of Phillis, was longlisted for the 2020 National Book Award in Poetry and won the 2021 NAACP Image Award for Literary Work. Jeffers is a professor of English at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, where she has taught since 2002, and holds the distinction of being the first Black full professor in the history of the department.

“Jeffers has created an opus, an indelible entry to the canon of contemporary American literature and one of the foundational fictional texts of Black literature worthy of sitting alongside Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye, and Jesmyn Ward’s Sing, Unburied, Sing.”
