GENERAL DESCRIPTION  
The elephant-headed god Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, was the bringer of prosperity and good fortune.  Today he is one of the most popular Hindu gods.  This necklace with an elephant-headed pendant was probably an offering to a temple and was designed to ornament a statue of Parvati.
