1984.202.13 Numazu: Scene at Dusk

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This view of the approach to Numazu, a town famous for its "Forest of a Thousand Pines," is the only moonlit scene in the series. The rear figure, based on the mask he carries, is a religious pilgrim destined for Konpira Shrine in Shikoku. The mask represents the Shinto deity Sarutahiko Ōkami, who figured in the early legends of Japan and who is also known as Koshin, god of the roads.
