GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The multiple examples of Edward G. Eisenlohr's individual pencil drawings in the DMA collection demonstrate his precision and control in this medium. The tonality created by his delicate linear hatch marks is as expressive as the gradations of color in oil paintings such as After the Cutting (1959.168). The meticulously rendered landscape views in Eisenlohr's sketchbook (1986.21) offer an early glimpse of his working methods. In his drawings, prints, and paintings, he depicted the landscape of North Texas and New Mexico before the urban expansion of the 1950s.

NOTES
Same general description used for all Eisenlohr drawings and his sketchbook. (1961.112, 1982.87, 1986.21, 1991.360.7, 1991.360.8, 1991.360.9, 1991.360.10)
Inscription on sketchbook gives the date he began working in the book as October 1, 1908 (WHEN HE WAS NOT IN US?), also inside is a 1910 Christmas Greeting sketch that implies he used the book through 1910.
