GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This ancient Chaco style human effigy vessel may illustrate a female figure who wears an elaborate necklace, bracelet, and loincloth or skirt. Smudging across the face, which is due to an accident of firing, obscures the facial features; however, the artist modeled hair buns to either side of the head. The bi-lobed buns closely resemble a ceremonial hairstyle—known as butterfly whorls—worn by Hopi and Tewa women.
