GENERAL DESCRIPTION  
Brocades such as these were used as wall coverings, bed and window hangings and for upholstery in the Louis XIV and Régence periods in France. They reflect the influence of the Italian Renaissance as well as the East in the ordering of the large scale flower and leaf pattern, which here includes a European style crown.
