GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This very fine salmon, red, yellow, and blue rug has borders with alternating pairs of confronted and addorsed monsters. The large central rectangular field has an overall trellis design with leafed crosses at their intertices and tiny cruciform quatrefoils within the trelliswork, reminding us of the then recent Christian unification of Spain. The pattern of this rug is more indebted to the Italian Renaissance than to earlier Moorish geometric designs.
