1985.R.128, Brocaded, Cardinal Arms, 18th century


GENERAL DESCRIPTION  
In 1985, the Dallas Museum of Art's textile holdings experienced remarkable growth with the addition of The Wendy and Emery Reves extensive decorative arts collection. The Reves textile collection includes European vestments, bed coverings, velvets, silk fabrics, and laces, as well as carpets from Spain, Turkey, Egypt, and India.

According to correspondence in the object file, a researcher (the Curator of Costumes & Textiles from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art) from 1990 who observed these objects suggests that they "are "Amice -- a part of the clergy's vestment worn over the neck." The researcher also suggested that they are 17th century as opposed to 18th century.
