1985.R.121, Gold, white, and pink table runner, Europe, 18th century

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This panel belongs to a group of finely woven silk brocades called bizarre because of their eccentric patterns. They were a specialty of Venetian weavers. The larger areas of gold-wrapped silk threads are balanced with lovely pink and blue flowers on a natural silk ground. It is now bordered with silver gallooning.

Excerpt from
Dallas Museum of Art, The Wendy and Emery Reves Collection (Dallas, Texas: Dallas Museum of Art, 1985), 214.
