2004.53 Profile figure holding staff with bird (Costa Rica, Atlantic Watershed)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

NOTES
  • Late Period IV, 1–500 CE (noted on TMS), NOT updated by KJones.
  • Previously Entered Provenance (note): From curator Carol Robbins' email message to Jack Lane, Bonnie Pitman, and Roslyn Walker of: "Following the year-end gifts meeting, I called Ann Daley, who has since  spoken with Spencer Throckmorton, the New York dealer from whom Frederick and Jan Mayer purchased the three Costa Rican pieces this fall. Spencer told Ann that he purchased two of the objects, the metate [DMA ID# T43083.2] and the mace head [DMA ID# T43083.1], from a family in New York in the early 1980s, before 1983. He purchased the jade from a San Francisco family, through Dave Beroche (spelling?), a San Francisco dealer. The jade [DMA ID# T43083.3] had reportedly been out of Costa Rica since the 1960s. The United States accepted the UNESCO Convention on September 2, 1983; it entered into force on December 2, 1983. Costa Rica ratified the Convention on March 6, 1966; it entered into effect on June 6, 1996."
