"Coreen Spellman and Barbara Maples were very well-known printmakers and teachers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and members of the important Printmakers Guild, founded in 1940 by seven local women artists. Spellman taught at Texas Woman's University and won many national awards for her prints. This early work shows the influence of the Texas Regionalist circle, which the artist was soon to reject."
