1965.16 Hepworth, Sea Form (Atlantic)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The bronze sculpture Sea Form (Atlantic) has a two-color patination which is symbolic of its motif, the massive overall form being a murky brown-black, the recessed areas a contrasting brilliant blue green. The form of the sculpture has the simplicity without starkness which is characteristic of Hepworth's work, which often conveys to the viewer a sense of calm and solidity through subtly refined abstraction. Sea Form (Atlantic) shows Hepworth's close attention to surface variation which results in the balanced harmony of rhythm which gives life to the massive, organic form.
