1984.49.24.FA Berenice Abbott, Cheese Store

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The following is the caption by Elizabeth McCausland accompanying the original 1939 edition of Berenice Abbott's Changing New York publication.

A thriving cheese business in an old-law tenement in Little Italy sells from 27,000 to 30,000 pounds a year. On land owned by Aaron Burr in 1804, B. Mandaro perpetuates the romance of caciocavallo, scamorza, mozzarella, ricotta, provola affumicata and so on through the 400 names of the world's cheeses.
