1979.26 Velma Davis Dozier, "Rain Forest (pin)," 1969

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Cast and fabricated from 18-karat gold, the Rain Forest pin harmoniously combines Dozier's interest in the natural world with the artistic traditions of other cultures, inspired by her many travels. The asymmetrical form features technically difficult metalworking techniques, including delicate granulation on an undulating and curved body. Where one expects to see a stone-setting, Dozier has embedded the dainty and minute feathers of a hummingbird, obtained on a trip to Mexico.

Heather Bowling, Digital Collections Content Coordinator, 2016.
