1963.18 Bonnard, Man Brought before a magistrate

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

NOTES
Removed TMS object tag because rule exists.

Notified BMac that an image was found online but not in TMS.

See objects 1956.80 and 1963.18. Both are illustrations for the same novel (and same edition). One of them has this information in the title. It seems to me that for illustrations that were actually published and distributed as part of a larger literary work, we could put the title of the larger work as the series title in TMS.

Added information, page number to the original publication- Octave Mirbeau, Dingo, (Paris: Ambroise Vollard, 1924), 60.

Add sources:
Floury, Jean, "Essai de catalogue de l'oeuvre gravé et lithographié de Pierre Bonnard," in "Bonnard," by Charles Terrasse (Paris: Floury, 1927).

Garvey, Eleanor M.  The Artist and the Book, 1860-1960, in Western Europe and the United States, exhibition catalogue (Boston, 1961), no. 30.

Ives, Colta, Helen Gianbruni, and Sasha M. Newman, Pierre Bonnard: The Graphic Art, (New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1989), p. 72, fig. 101, cat. 103. Book available to read online or download through MetPublications, http://www.metmuseum.org/research/metpublications/Pierre_Bonnard_The_Graphic_Art

Johnson, Una E. Ambroise Vollard, Editeur: Prints, Books, Bronzes, exhibtion catalogue (New York, 1977), no. 169.

Provenance (not public)
From 1963: Dallas Art Association, purchased from Ferdinand Roten Gallery [1]

[1] The Dallas Arts Association is the predecessor to the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. The name was abandoned in 1970. Works from this collection were transferred to the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. The name of the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, founded in 1933, was changed to the Dallas Museum of Art in 1983.

EXHIBITION- Could not find any media associated with The Time of Bonnard: Prints and Illustrated Books in France, Sept 1984. Would be useful for several of his works in the DMA collection.
